At least one inside every sleeping area, and one within 10 feet of the door on the outside for that same area, and a minimum of one per level of the home.

How often should I change my smoke alarm batteries?

At least twice a year is recommended. It is easiest to keep up with if you do this when you chance your clocks in the spring and fall.

Do you have free smoke alarms?

From time to time we do. It is best to call (205) 921-2877 and check our current supply.

Where should my fire extinguisher be located in the kitchen?

Preferably not near the stove, as the stove is likely where the fire will be. It should be readily available on an adjacent wall.

We operate with 8 full time firefighters and about twenty volunteers.

Do you have paramedics at the fire department?

We do have medically trained personnel; we only provide first responder aid on medical calls as we respond along with Regional Paramedical Services.
